Ms. Crespo’s Ecology of South Florida class went to Biscayne National Park on Dec. 1, 2015. The class loaded into a bus at 8 a.m. Once loaded in they set off to Biscayne and arrived after about 45 minutes. Once they arrived they were met by a ranger who showed them around.

Grade 8 student John Martinez won the first AcadeMir Charter School Middle Spelling Bee in the school’s cafeteria on December 10. The runner-up was Jason Gorelick, also in Grade 8.

Donald Trump, the current leader of the Republican Party’s race for a presidential nominee (though he finished a disappointing second in the Iowa caucus), is best known as a successful real estate and host of the NBC reality TV program, “The Apprentice.” However, he has toyed with the idea of a Republican or even Independent presidential run on numerous occasions in the past 30 years. He has had a tendency to expand his notability for these potential runs with extravagant public antics, such as his decision in 2011 to join the group of Americans who questioned President Barack Obama’s birth within the United States. Dubbed “birthers” – they accused Obama of having been born in Kenya, and thus being constitutionally ineligible for the office of President.
