Much more ‘Star Wars’ to come in the next few years

LOOKING AHEAD: Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn on stage at D23 Expo presenting Lucasfilm's upcoming "Star Wars" projects.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens left a huge impact on the science fiction genre and left fans wanting more. People have been wondering what’s coming in the next years and we now have some information.

The remaining movies in the trilogy (Episode VII and IX) are scheduled to be released in 2017 and 2019, respectively. In the years between, spin-off movies will be released.

A spinoff is a movie based on a different story leading to the events of the main movies or a movie about a character from it. The first spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is scheduled to be released on Dec. 16, 2016. The plot is based on the team that stole the Death Star plans from the Empire, a major plot point in Star Wars: A New Hope. There will also be spinoffs for Han Solo (2018) and Boba Fett (unscheduled).
