Mrs. Marianne Triana

Principal

Marianne Triana, an educator for over 16 years, currently serves as the Principal of AcadeMir Preparatory Academy and AcadeMir Charter School Middle. She previously served as the Assistant Principal of AcadeMir Charter School Preparatory (ACSP). During her time there, ACSP became an A rated school, making large gains and achieving academic success. She helped develop the middle school program, expanding to a rigorous and academically challenging set of courses.

Throughout the years, she played various roles within education. She taught multiple grade levels ranging from first grade to eighth grade. She served as a Department Head, Grade Level Lead, and Curriculum Specialist where she focused on analyzing student data to optimize student learning.

Mrs. Triana graduated with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University. Mrs. Triana is committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment while strengthening the academic program at APA and ACSM so that all students can excel and achieve their academic goals. Mrs. Triana believes in supporting the whole child in all aspects of education including socialization, knowledge acquisition, character development, and promoting extracurricular activities that gives students a chance to excel. Mrs. Triana is proud to be a part of the APA and ACSM Tiger family.

Helga Chalas

Asst. Principal

Helga Chalas is honored to return to the Miller family as the Elementary Assistant Principal for the 2024-2025 school year at Academir Preparatory Academy. She began her journey with Academir Charter School Middle in January 2024 and brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role.

With 17 years of experience in high-achieving charter school systems as a teacher, reading coach, and assistant principal, Helga has a proven track record of excellence in education. For the past four years, she founded and led a small Title 1 school in Little Havana as its principal, demonstrating her commitment to fostering academic growth and community engagement.

Before her work in charter schools, Ms. Chalas served as a lead teacher and primary teacher for Dade County Public Schools for 9 years, where she developed a deep understanding of the foundational years of education. She believes these early years are crucial for instilling in students a lifelong love for learning.

Ms. Chalas is passionate about empowering students to reach their full academic potential and values open communication with all school stakeholders. She is dedicated to the holistic growth of each child, ensuring they thrive both academically and personally.

Erlan Cabrera

Asst. Principal

My name is Erlan Cabrera, and I live in Miami, Florida. I am an Assistant Principal and Science Curriculum Coach at Academir Charter Schools. Previously, I worked as a Math and Science Instructional Coach and K-12 Curriculum Specialist for two years. I have also taught Biology, 8th-grade Science, and Robotics.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Havana. From 2011 to 2014, I worked as a Marine Biologist at the National Aquarium of Cuba, where I gained experience in scientific data processing and analysis. I led a research project on invasive species in Cuba and have published scientific papers on the topic.

After moving to the United States in 2017, I began working as a middle school science teacher at Hammocks Middle School. I obtained a temporary certification from the Florida Department of Education as a Middle Grades Science and Biology teacher. I earned credits from Miami Dade College School of Education and received my Professional Educator Certificate in 2019. I am certified to teach Middle School Science, Biology, and Mathematics.
